Off to Denmark's beautiful, modern, relaxed capital? Copenhagen is quite the up-and-coming destination for a weekend away, but can you eat healthily here?
YES!
In cooler countries, there's a tendency for the native population to sway towards filling, heavy foods. The good news about this in Copenhagen is that porridge is a staple breakfast food.A gorgeous chain of affordable porridge eateries called GRĂ˜D are popping up. With creative variations on this morning classic, from rolled oats to spelt bases, and toppings that include caramel sauce, banana, peanut butter, yoghurt, chopped apple, blueberries, and crushed almonds - you can have your heavenly oatmeal goodness exactly the way you want it.
I'm happy to admit that when my friend Jocelyn and I visited last year, we had breakfast there twice!

Healthy lunch in Copenhagen
Since Copenhagen is such a modern city, it's being inspired by foodie trends that are spreading globally. Take the paleo diet that's been such a hit recently. It's based on the caveman diet of eating vegetables, fruits, nuts, and meat, while excluding foods like diary products, grains and sugar. It's resulted in diners in Copenhagen like Paleo which is all about primal gastronomy. They exist to try and dispel the myth that fast food is unhealthy. I think they do well!

Another discovery was right next door! 42Raw is Copenhagen's first raw food bar. It might be small, but it serves vegan meals, has a great brunch menu, and lovely salads.

I'd recommend a fantastic spot called BOB - BioMio Organic Bistro. Here, I had one of the best steaks of my life.
The restaurant itself is in a really cool area of the city, the meatpacking district in Vesterbro, and it's actually the largest organic restaurant in Denmark. The food is both modern and delicious.
