Healthy Eating In St Albans

Home to an enchanting abbey, with Roman origins and a wonderful market, the historic city of St Albans has some healthy treasures waiting to be discovered. Here's a few of my favourites...

Canteen

A cute eatery with menu diamonds like the halloumi wrap and roast butternut squash salad, Canteen is perfect for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. As I work in St Albans, it has been known to host our team for a lunchtime treat.

The Juice Pharm

A recent addition to the city that's well-known for quality restaurants and plenty of choice, The Juice Pharm focuses on creating a healthy, happy menu. It includes cold-pressed juice, superfood smoothies, vegan and raw food.

I visited with my colleague Katie McGuinness and she loved it too. We had wholemeal bagels with cream cheese and mashed avocado - great portion sizes, perfectly fresh, and good-for-you!

"The Juice Pharm is amazing. It's impressive to see so many healthy and tasty looking options on the menu, and for really reasonable prices. I will absolutely be going back to try one of their fresh juices!" She told me.

Prime

This steak restaurant makes the list because it's simply fantastic. The idea isn't to eat healthily as such, but to eat quality meat and know where it's come from. Their beef is sourced from grass-fed, ethically-reared herds that graze on pastures in the UK. They have a sister restaurant in Chandler's Cross too that's just as excellent.

The Waffle House

A restaurant like the Waffle House proves that you can eat traditionally unhealthy foods in a wholesome way. They do waffles in both spelt and wholemeal versions. With savoury toppings like hummus and avocado, and sweet additions like banana and cinnamon, we can have one of our favourite meals guilt-free!

Not forgetting that the city also has lots of other options, including chain restaurants and cafés like Jamie's Italian, Nandos and Pret A Manger, where you can grab a tasty, healthy bite too.
